Guest posting has its benefits. Guest posting is a major opportunity because you get to talk to someone else’s awesome audience and hopefully get them to become a part of YOUR awesome audience. It’s just a ton of awesome that you don’t want to miss out on.

There are 7 ways guest posting builds your brand. Actually, there are more. But these are my top faves so I listed them below!
1 | SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION
Ever heard of it? If you have stuck around Mara Burkes for awhile, you probably have. Search engine optimization is all about making Google play nice, getting your brand organically ranked and seen on Google’s search page. SEO is pretty important and guest posting is said to help. I’m not 100% convinced that it helps tremendously but it is always a good idea to get your links out there on other websites!
SEO is a benefit that may or may not happen due to guest posting. So I wouldn’t consider guest posting a lot in hopes of ranking higher on Google.
2 | INCREASE SOCIAL MEDIA FOLLOWERS
I mean, you get a bunch of people that are loyal followers to this other blog you are guesting post for, a trust has already been built up and you’re throwing all your awesome knowledge at them? They are going to fall in love with you! And once they fall in love, let them know where and how to follow you on social media.
Tip: Don’t throw out every single social media you have and throw it up at the bottom of your guest post. Possibly paste the code of all your social media icons, but pick one or two of your favorite social media platforms that you want them to connect with the most, and push those two on them. Possibly mention those two throughout the post as well, casually mention your Instagram for example with a link by saying “Over on my Instagram (<linked) I talk about ___ so you should definitely come check it out!”
3 | BRINGS AWARENESS
Again, you’re getting to put yourself in the spotlight on someone else’s blog. This brings more awareness to your brand. Which is great. You’re getting your name out there. You’re getting the fact that you are a leader in your niche out there. You’re getting your product or service noticed by another audience. That deserves a little bit of ice cream and Netflix celebration if you ask me!
4 | PROMOTE YOUR SERVICES OR PRODUCTS
I have gotten several clients just by writing a guest post (that doesn’t even pertain to what I blog about!) and then writing a few sentences toward the end about what I do/my biz. I get e-mails from that guest post wanting to work with me that have been looking for a web designer or blog designer. It’s crazy. And then I get referrals from those peoples so clients just kept rolling in just from a few guest posts!
5 | DRIVES TRAFFIC
Send them back to your site or older blog posts that you have written! This drives traffic back to your cozy spot on the internet. Getting that traffic back to your website means more eyeballs on that beautiful portfolio of yours or that new product you just released. How awesome. So make sure to tell people to hop on over to your side of cyber space so they can check out how cool you are beyond the fantastic blog post you just shared with them.
6 | EMAIL LIST
Okay here’s the deal. Getting an e-mail list together is important. And by guest posting you can offer a freebie or discount to your shop in exchange for their email address! It’s such a simple way of growing your list and really fun as well! By providing value to this new audience you are gaining their trust and capturing their email on a list so you can chat with them later more about your brand, new posts, podcasts, products, etc!
7 | BUSINESS CONNECTIONS
You’re saving that person time. How nice of you! You get to expand your brand and help out another person in the process. Build connections with other bloggers in your niche. Love on people that like the same thing you do. Super cool. I love making connections like these. Having business/blog bffs is the absolute best. So reach out to a potential friend that has a blog (make sure their audience somewhat aligns with your target audience) and make them love you enough to let you guest post to their lovely readers!
Side note: In the past, I have been terrible at guest blogging. I took on way too much (oh, college days!) and was not organized at all whatsoever. Dates would go by and I would forget or I would mess up little details that I should have gotten right. Although most of the fantastic women I worked with didn’t get upset with me, one specific group of women that ran a company got pretty heated with me because I messed up on a detail (I overlooked it!) and posted without realizing. Oh gosh. So whether you are guest posting on someone else’s blog or having a lovely soul guest post on yours, make sure to create a checklist and have all your details right. I wouldn’t want you to get yelled at by a crazy.
Ok so guest posting rocks. There are plenty more benefits than the ones I listed above but I felt pretty solid about what I created so I stopped with seven.
You’re loved. You’re rockin’ that biz life. Guest post away. Go make biz friends!
